VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Monday (Oct 25) announced 615 new cases of the virus, of which 612 were locally transmitted and three were identified among people entering Laos.

Luang Prabang reported the highest number of new cases at 229, while another person reportedly died from the virus. The deceased was a 75-year-old woman from Keooudom district in Vientiane province, who died on Oct 24 at a hospital in Phonhong district. She had not been vaccinated against Covid and suffered from diabetes and hypertension. The deaths of the woman raise the total number of Covid-related fatalities to 53.
