Philippines raises age of sexual consent from 12 to 16 years old

MANILA, March 7 (dpa): Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law raising the age of sexual consent from 12 to 16 years old, in a bid to better protect minors from rape and sexual abuse.

Under the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, adults who have sexual relations with anyone under 16 years old are automatically guilty of statutory rape.
