Bangkok seeing major flooding as storms continues to pound Thailand

Bangkok (dpa) - Bangkok was experiencing severe flooding on Thursday as the Thai capital saw heavy rainfall.

Parts of the metropolis were underwater, such as the city's Bang Khen district, according to the Bangkok Post, which cited officials. Multiple sewers were overwhelmed by the rush of water.

Governor Chadchart Sittipunt urged residents to be careful, especially on the streets, since further heavy rainfall has been predicted. Many drivers have already become trapped in the rising waters.

Military units have been called out to offer assistance.

It is the rainy season across large parts of Thailand at the moment, but multiple areas are reporting much heavier rains than normal.

Bangkok and the metro area have been inundated for weeks by heavy, prolonged rains which have paralysed traffic, flooded roads, and stranded commuters.- dpa
