Singapore economy beats forecasts to grow 4.4% in third quarter

SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): Singapore's economy beat expectations to grow 4.4 per cent year on year in the third quarter, led by a broad-based pickup in areas such as accommodation and food services, and construction.

Growth in the July to September quarter eased slightly from the 4.5 per cent expansion in the previous quarter, advance estimates released on Friday by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) showed.
