BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): The first school term for the 2023 academic year for all primary, secondary, colleges and sixth form centres under the purview of the Ministry of Education(MoE) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs officially commenced on Tuesday (Jan 3).
Among the many schools was Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Sungai Kebun Primary School where students were welcomed with a list of fun activities.
“This year we went with the theme of fun hats made from recycled materials,” shared Assistant Principal of Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Sungai Kebun Primary School Liah Badar as she explained why students were wearing all sorts of exciting hats during the day.
The assistant principal further explained that as part of the primary school’s school opening activities, students are divided into groups, with each having a teacher to lead them.
“Apart from organising these fun activities as a way to encourage and get students excited for the start of the school year, games are also crafted to spark interest and make use of their knowledge of various subjects such as Maths, Science and MIB,” added the Assistant Principal.
She also shared that this year the school saw a total of 387 students consisting of Year 1 to Year 6 students.
In a press statement issued by the MoE, International Schools and Training Centres, Brunei Institute of Technical Education (IBTE) Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA) and Private Institutions (IPTS) will commence according to their respective academic calendars.
MoE also advised that whilst the situation of the Covid-19 infection in Brunei Darussalam is under control, the Ministry is prioritising the well-being, cleanliness and safety of students in ensuring that learning sessions will be carried out smoothly.
The implementation of Antigen Rapid Test (ART) screening tests is encouraged periodically at home at own expense and the use of masks is not mandatory. However, use of masks is mandatory for schools and educational institutions community who are symptomatic.
In this regard, MoE would like to request the cooperation of parents and guardians to provide support to the school, ensuring that children follow all the guidelines and regulations that have been prepared in ensuring the safety and welfare of the school community.
