BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan 14 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei has been ranked sixth in Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) in the latest Sustainable Development Report (SDR) by United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN).
The report assessed 193 UN member states on their progress towards achieving the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and calculates their percentage of achievement.
Thailand ranked first in Asean and 44th globally with 74.13 per cent, Vietnam (72.76 per cent), Singapore (71.72 per cent), Malaysia (70.38 per cent), Indonesia (69.16 per cent), Brunei (67.10 per cent), Philippine (66.64 per cent), Myanmar (64.27 per cent), Cambodia (63.75 per cent) and Laos (63.39 per cent).
Globally, Finland ranked first, at 86.51 per cent, followed by Denmark at 85.63 per cent, Sweden (85.19 per cent), Norway (82.35 per cent) and Austria (82.32 per cent).
The Sultanate performed best in providing quality education where it has achieved the SDG.
The nation is ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The indicators are participation rate in pre-primary organised learning, net primary enrolment rate and lower secondary completion rate.
Meanwhile, the Sultanate also scores in good health and well-being and in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages.
The country is also moderately improving in gender equality as it ensures to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls.
The same goes to Decent Work and Economic Growth – moderately improving but significant challenges remain.
In terms of the provision of Clean Water and Sanitation, the nation is on track or maintaining SDG achievement. Major challenges remain in Zero Hunger and attain to achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
More works need to be done on climate action, Life Below Water and Life on Land.
