Cambodia and India boost defence ties; hope to further improve bilateral relationship

PHNOM PENH, Feb 4 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): Hun Manet, deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodia Armed Forces (RCAF), and commander of the army, is paying an official three-day visit to India to forge stronger defence ties between the militaries of the two countries.

During the February 2-4 visit, Manet met with senior India officials, including vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar, National Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

“Pleased to meet Lt. Gen Hun Manet of Cambodia today afternoon. [We] exchanged views on the geopolitical situation & regional challenges. Agreed on the need for independence minded nations to cooperate closely,” said Jaishankar, on social media.

He added that they also had discussed possibilities for closer cooperation in defence and security, connectivity and digital delivery.

Manet also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial and received a Guard of Honour at the South Gate, according to an Indian army social media post.

During his meeting with Manoj Pande, Indian army Chief of Army, they discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.

“During the interaction, terms of reference for staff level talks between the two Armies were signed, and folders on customised training for the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces were exchanged between the two general officers,” said the Indian army. - Phnom Penh Post/ANN
