Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, received in audience United Kingdom (UK) Minister of State for the Indo-Pacific Anne-Marie Trevelyan yesterday.
The minister is in the Sultanate for the 2nd Brunei Darussalam-United Kingdom Strategic Dialogue.
His Majesty and the minister discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual importance to the Sultanate and the UK, as well as the UK’s status as Asean’s Dialogue Partner.
Accompanying the minister was British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam John Virgoe.
Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof was also present.
Diplomatic relations between the Sultanate and the UK were established in January 1984.
Both countries cooperate extensively, especially in the fields of defence, education as well as trade and investment cooperation.
On Aug 5, 2021, the UK became Asean’s first new dialogue partner in 25 years, and Brunei is currently the Country Coordinator for Asean-UK Dialogue Relations.
The Brunei Darussalam-United Kingdom Strategic Dialogue was established in 2021.
The audience ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
