Grammy nominee Gipsy King to perform at Sarawak's Rainforest World Music Festival in June

KUCHING, March 4 (Bernama): The Sarawak renowned international musical event, the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) will be making its return with the theme ‘Reflection’ from June 23 to 25 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.

Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said Grammy Award nominee Gipsy Kings from France, along with Jamaican band, Big Mountain, known for their remake of Peter Frampton’s "Baby, I Love Your Way” had been lined up to perform in this year’s festival.

He said RWMF will continue to bring together various sounds and musicians from all continents, providing a wonderful stage for local music to shine.

"Sarawak is proud to reflect on how far the RWMF has traversed from its humble beginnings with merely 300 spectators for its first-ever concert back in 1998 to become a Star Festival. RWMF has grown over the years and has now also become a strong ‘advocate’ of Responsible Tourism initiatives.

"I am proud to share that RWMF will continue to embrace sustainability causes, in line with Sarawak’s aspiration to position itself as a leading player in Responsible Tourism and a leading destination for eco-tourism in Southeast Asia,” he said at a press conference to announce the RWMF 2023 here, today.

He said a total of 96 musicians from 12 countries will perform in this year’s RWMF edition to perform a diverse range of music genres namely from Tanzania, Maldives, Iran, Jamaica, the United Kingdom, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, France, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Ticket sales for the event will open on April 15 and further information can be obtained at www.rwmf.net - Bernama
