VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): President of the National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on Monday (April 10) hosted visiting Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and agreed during their talks to deepen the special ties between the two countries.
The Vietnamese leader came to Laos on April 10-11 for an official visit at the invitation of his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith.
After holding talks with President Thongloun, President Thuong called on Dr Xaysomphone and Dr Sonexay at their offices.
The Vietnamese leader also received the President of the Lao Front for National Development, Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, and the President of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, Prof. Dr Boviengkham Vongdara, who is also Minister of Technology and Communications.
During their talks, the Lao leaders said they highly valued President Thuong’s visit – his first overseas trip since he was elected state President of Vietnam on March 2. They congratulated the guest on his election as the state President of Vietnam.
Both sides also said they highly valued the time-honoured friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, states, and peoples. This has been reflected in strengthened and expanding cooperation in areas such as politics, trade and economics.
Notably, the two countries last year jointly celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
The leaders agreed to work together to further enhance the friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation for the mutual benefit of their two peoples.
The two sides pledged to continue to extend mutual support to one another through bilateral and multilateral frameworks in the regional and international arenas.
The Lao leaders congratulated the Vietnamese people on the achievements they have made in socio-economic development over past years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
This has enabled Vietnam to enjoy political stability, social security and order, democracy, and justice, creating a stronger nation. The quality of life of the Vietnamese people continues to improve.
The Lao side expressed gratitude to the Party, state and people of Vietnam for the invaluable assistance extended to Laos.
Dr Xaysomphone informed President Thuong that the National Assemblies of Laos and Vietnam have enjoyed growing ties and cooperation.
Prime Minister Sonexay told the Vietnamese leader he has been working closely with his Vietnamese counterpart to push for the fulfilment of cooperation agreements and projects agreed to by the leaders of the two countries.
