PHNOM PENH (The Phnom Penh/Asia News Network): The Ministry of Health and the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration said they expect the Techo Santepheap National Hospital to be completed in June this year. When complete, it will be the largest state-of-the-art hospital in the country.

They called on the construction firm to accelerate their work to ensure the planned completion date would be met.

Minister Mam Bun Heng and Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng inspected the progress of the site on April 6.

“The hospital is scheduled to be completed and launched in June. It will provide a wide variety of services to people from all over the country, especially patients from the 14 districts in Phnom Penh, as well as from Kandal and Kampong Speu provinces, which border the capital,” said the City Hall.

The facility is large enough to handle large-scale outbreaks, and will be equipped with the latest international standard medical technology.

In January, while inspecting the progress of construction, Prime Minister Hun Sen said the painful experience of the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic had inspired the government to build the hospital.

“The wellbeing of the people is one of the government’s top priorities,” he said at the time.

A groundbreaking and blessing ceremony for the hospital, which will have 10,000 beds, and emergency ward and intensive care units, was held on Feb 14 last year.

Some of the facilities may be in use in tie for the upcoming 32nd SEA Games and 12th Asean Para Games, which are due to kick off in early May and June respectively.
