PHNOM PENH, April 23 (Laotian Times): The steering committee for the construction of Cambodia's Siem Reap Angkor International Airport held a meeting to confirm that flight trials will begin in May.
The meeting was held between the steering committee for the Construction of Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and Yunnan Air Investment Cambodia Airport management on April 20.
It was chaired by Tek Reth Samrech, Minister Delegate to PM Hun Sen and Chairman of the Committee, and other officials.
During the meeting, involved stakeholders said that they were ready for a flight validation in mid-May and as of March-end, the construction of the international airport is 92 percent complete.
The airport’s operation management process also saw 38 out of the total 79 activities of the airport operation management plan completed, under the approval of the government which approved its implementation.
Officials say that they are committed to completing the remaining activities in a timely manner, leading up to the official opening of the international airport in October 2023, Khmer Times reports.
With an investment of more than USD 880 million, the construction of Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is underway on 700 hectares of land in Sot Nikum district, Siem Reap province. The airport is situated about 50km away from Siem Reap City.
The international airport will be classified as 4E, which enables it to accommodate long-haul aircrafts. - Laotian Times
