Philippines' Covid-19 cases up 112 per cent since May


MANILA, May 8 (Xinhua): The Philippines reported 9,465 Covid-19 infections in the first week of May, 112 per cent higher than the previous week, the Department of Health has announced.

From May 1 to 7, the department recorded an average daily infection of 1,352, with 50 severe or critical cases.

The infections are highest in Metro Manila, followed by areas adjacent to the capital region.

The Philippines, with around 110 million population, had logged over 4.1 million confirmed Covid-19 cases as of Sunday, including 66,453 deaths.

The health department urged Filipinos to keep wearing face masks to prevent infections, especially in crowded places. - Xinhua
