BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will be on a state visit to Australia from June 19 to June 21.

The state visit is on invitation of Governor-General of Australia David John Hurley.

The Sultany is expected to meet the governor-general and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as well as sign a joint declaration of a comprehensive partnership between the government of Brunei Darussalam and the Commonwealth of Australia.

The close and longstanding ties between the Sultanate and Australia were established on May 5, 1984 in which the two countries share strong cooperation in a number of areas, including education, trade and investment, defence, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges such as a series of past state visits, on May 1 to May 3, 2013 and Feb 15 to Feb 20, 2005.

The Sultan also attended the Asean-Australia Special Summit in Sydney in March 2018.
