YANGON, June 25 (Eleven Media Group/ANN): Permanent Secretary U Chan Aye of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Dicky Komar, the Chargés d'affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw last week.
In the meeting, they exchanged views on strengthening the existing friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Indonesia and discussed issues such as humanitarian assistance from Indonesia to Myanmar for people affected by Cyclone Mocha, repatriation issues of Indonesian citizens who are facing difficulties in the border region of Myanmar, and mutual cooperation in the regional and international fronts, including Asean.
During the meeting, the permanent secretary clarified the Chargés d'affaires of the Indonesian Embassy on the current development conditions of Myanmar, the implementation of Asean's five common aspirations and the challenges faced by terrorist acts and subversive acts in doing so, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In another development, the Myanmar government announced that 52 people were killed and 116 others injured between January and May this year, according to the country's fire services department data.
A total of 875 fire accidents occurred during the January-May period, causing damage of over 13.47 billion kyats (over 6.41 million U.S. dollars), the department's figures showed.
In May, the South-East Asian country saw 130 fire accidents with one death and 15 injuries. Most of the fire outbreaks during May occurred in Yangon Region, followed by Bago Region, Mandalay Region, and Shan State respectively.
The causes of the fire accidents included stove fire, negligence, faulty electrical wiring, arson, forest fire, and lightning, it said.
Last year, 96 people were killed and 139 others injured in 1,507 fire accidents in the Southeast Asian country, official figures showed.
