Myanmar's border trade up 11.87 per cent in nearly three months

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar's cross-border imports and exports surged 11.87 per cent year on year to over US$2.01 billion in the first nearly three months of the 2023-24 fiscal year, official data has showed.

The country's goods exports via land borders amounted to over US$1.11 billion between April 1 and June 23 this year, while its border imports were valued at over US$894.35 million, the country's Ministry of Commerce's figures showed.

During the period, the country saw a total foreign trade value of over US$7.37 billion, including its maritime trade value of more than US$5.3 billion, the ministry's figures showed.

The South-East Asian country usually does most of its foreign trade through sea routes as it has a long coastline. It conducts border trade with China, Thailand, Bangladesh and India.

In efforts to further enhance border trade, Myanmar also hosted a Myanmar-China border trade fair in its capital Nay Pyi Taw in May.

The country exports agricultural products, animal products, fisheries, minerals and forest products, manufacturing goods and others, while it imports capital goods, intermediate goods and consumer goods. - Xinhua
