Brunei to face active weather conditions tin coming weeks, says its meteorological agency

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): The weather condition in Brunei is forecasted to be active in coming weeks, the country's meteorological agency said.

According to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommuncations, the Sultanate is currently in the southwest monsoon period with active weather conditions forecasted for the next few days due to moist atmospheric conditions that enhanced the development of rain clouds.

The condition will result in occasional heavy and thundery showers affecting a number of areas, the meteorological department said.

The department's observation station at the Brunei International Airport reported a total rainfall of 161.1 millimeters since July 1, which had exceeded more than half of the normal rainfall for July.

The risk of falling trees and landslides will increase during heavy showers and gusty conditions, while flash floods, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas and near the river banks may occur during heavy rain and high tide, the agency said. - Xinhua
