BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Traditional dance teams from higher learning institutions dazzled both audience and judges with colourful and vibrant performances during a contest organised by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre on Wednesday (July 12).

The team from UBD won the first prize of BND1,000, Universiti Teknologi Brunei came second and won BND750 while Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology settled for third, winning BND500.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri Kifle was the guest of honour.

The competition, organised for the first time, saw 82 students participate in teams from various higher learning institutions.

Event chairperson Rozita Tamin said traditional dance can instil the love for the nation’s culture and heritage.

The competition was held to scout talents interested in the art of traditional dance while fostering innovation, creativity and teamwork among students. Prior to the competition, teams attended workshops hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
