Six people killed after train hits van in Indonesia's East Java

JAKARTA (Bernama): Six people were killed and two others were injured when a train struck a van in Jombang, East Java on late Saturday night.

Jombang police in a statement said the six victims who were passengers of the van died at the scene.

The other two, who were also inside the van, were rushed to the local hospital and they are both in critical condition.

The accident happened around 11.15 pm local time when the van drove through a railway crossing without barriers in Jabon village at Kilometre 85 between Jombang-Sembung Station.

Initial investigation showed that the van driver ignored other road users’ warnings, who repeatedly asked the driver to stop.

The train, operated by PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia, then hit and dragged the car for about 100 metres from the accident scene.

No train passengers were injured in the accident, and the train resumed service at 11.25 pm. - Bernama
