Three Malaysian men deny charges in supplying Brunei palace with expired flour

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A Malaysian trio have denied 45 charges of conspiring to cheat Hyatt Borneo Management Services (HBMS), a service provider based at Istana Nurul Iman, in a further mention of the case in the capital.

Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana Abdul Rahman adjourned the case to August 9 on hearing the guilty pleas entered by 51-year-old Sam Ying Kok, 56-year-old Abdul Sani bin Abdul Mutalib and 56-year-old Iskak bin Rahmat.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Rozaimah Abdul Rahman, who took over the case, will cite evidence from allegations that Sam had conspired with Iskak and Abdul Sani to cheat HBMS into believing that the Dawn baking flour supplied and delivered by Perusahaan Ala Haji Bolhassan between February 1, 2021 and March 1, 2022 is still usable despite it having the product expired. With the deception, HBMS ordered and paid BND25,780.

The charges arose from Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) findings which alleged Perusahaan Ala Haji Bolhassan, a long-time flour supplier to HBMS, supplied expired Dawn baking flour to HBMS.

The Dawn flour was allegedly surplus from orders made by Perusahaan Ala Haji Bolhassan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the Covid-19 restrictions lifted, the company sold the expired flour to HBMS, the ACB purported.

The investigation in June 2022 saw the arrests of Perusahaan Ala Haji Bolhassan, general manager Sam, HBMS pastry chef Iskak and HBMS materials manager Abdul Sani. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
