PHNOM PENH (The Phnom Penh Post/Asia News Network): In a generous act of international collaboration, the National Paediatric Hospital is teaming up with ophthalmologists from Hunan Hospital in China to provide life-changing eye surgeries to children for two weeks in September.
“We announce the collaboration with a team of ophthalmologists from Hunan Hospital in China that will offer strabismus and drooping eyelid surgery,” the National Paediatric Hospital announced on their Facebook page.
The post detailed: “The surgeries will be conducted free of charge for children from September 15-30.
“To facilitate the scheduling of these surgeries, we kindly request that patients be registered in advance”.
Keo Vanna, vice deputy of the Technical Bureau and chief of the Ear Nose Throat Department at the National Paediatric Hospital, spoke about the significance of the procedures.
“This surgery is of paramount importance for children with cataracts and drooping eyelids.
“It prevents vision problems that could potentially lead to blindness, and it aids in improving appearance,” Vanna said.
Vanna stressed the need for parents to register their children if they’re experiencing problems with strabismus and eyelid drooping. But parents can rest easy knowing there is no current limit on the number of surgeries available.
The timing for the surgery and any required postoperative health checks will be carefully arranged, taking into consideration the patients’ symptoms after the surgery.
Parents who wish to register their children for these vital surgeries can do so by visiting the link provided on the social media post.
The services will be provided at the National Paediatric Hospital on Russian Federation Boulevard in Phnom Penh’s Toul Kork district.
