Myanmar seizes over 60 tons of illegal timbers in a week


YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar authorities have seized over 61.34 tons of illegal timbers across the country in a week, according to the state media on Friday.

From July 31 to Aug. 6, the authorities captured over 30.46 tons of teak, over 4.41 tons of hardwood and over 26.45 tons of other types of timbers in the country's regions, states and Naypyidaw Union Territory, state media reported.

During the seven days, 14 offenders were charged in connection with the cases, along with the seizure of six vehicles and machines.

The Forest Department has been cracking down on illegal logging and trading of forest products and is committed to implementing tree plantation projects in substitution. - Xinhua
