Fly with me: Cathay Pacific offering 100,000 discounted tickets

HONG KONG (China Daily/Asia News Network): Cathay Pacific - Hong Kong’s flagship carrier – is launching a special offer for air travellers from Thursday (Aug 17), with more than 100,000 time-restricted discounted tickets to more than 30 global destinations up for grabs.

The promotional tickets will be valid for six months from Jan 1 next year, with specific blackout dates excluded.

The launch will start at 2pm on Aug 17 and end at 11:59 pm on Aug 30, with tickets to be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tickets will be for short- and long-haul flights to destinations worldwide, including cities on the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, as well as in Asia, Europe and the United States.

Cathay Pacific’s latest offer is aimed at reviving its business in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic that has dealt a heavy blow to the aviation industry in the past three years.

The carrier saw a turnaround in the first half of this year following the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s lifting of all anti-pandemic restrictions, and the resumption of normal travel between the SAR and mainland.

The company recorded attributable profit of HK$4.26 billion (US$544.6 million) for the six months ended June 30 this year, compared to a loss of HK$4.99 billion in the previous year, according to its interim results released last week.

The airline said it had already reached 50 per cent of pre-pandemic passenger flight capacity levels covering 70 destinations in March this year.

Chairman Patrick Healy said he’s confident the airline could achieve 70-percent passenger flight capacity of the pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2023, and reach 100 per cent by the end of next year.
