Manet explains government’s strategy to 18,000 workers

PHNOM PENH (The Phnom Penh Post/Asia News Network): Hun Manet (pic), for the first time in his capacity as Cambodian Prime Minister, met with some 18,000 garment workers in Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district on Tuesday morning (Aug 29) and described in detail his party’s long-term strategy to further national development.

He said the “Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I” recently launched by the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) had been devised by experts with in-depth knowledge and experience, with the aim of ensuring consistency with the previous ones — the same political platform as promised by the party before the general election.

He said consistency is key to maintaining a favourable environment for investors and thereby furthering economic growth.

“But more importantly, our people get the benefits from our country’s economic growth,” he said, adding that economic growth would be of little value if it did not benefit the people.

On Aug 24, during his first Cabinet meeting, Manet officially launched the new government’s Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I, with a focus on economic growth, job creation, equity, efficiency and sustainability. The strategy aims to achieve Cambodia’s vision of becoming a high-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income one by 2050.
