BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): The Skitto Clean cleaning brush has been found to be made with pig bristles, said the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ (MoRA) Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department announced.
The discovery of the non-halal item was made following public complaints, and the Ministry of Health’s Department of Scientific Service confirmed the content.
The Syariah Affairs Department ordered the removal of the product, as well as other items under the brand, from store shelves to prevent Muslims from purchasing non-halal items.
MoRA also reminded business owners, managers, retailers, suppliers and importers to be vigilant when importing products for sale and to ensure non-halal items are not displayed alongside halal ones.
Muslims, restaurants and food providers who have been using Skitto Clean products, particularly those with halal certifications and permits from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), have been ordered to discontinue using the brushes, and a proper cleansing be performed.
Meanwhile, the MUIB revoked the halal certificate issued to an eatery in Kampong Lambak effective Aug 31.
The withdrawal of the certification was due to violations of halal requirements, particularly for using four brushes made with pig bristles, according to a MoRA press statement.
The case was investigated under Section 37 of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005 where if found guilty, may result in a penalty of imprisonment not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding BND8,000, or both for the eatery.
