VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): Zhongrun Laos Solar Technology Company Limited officially opened the first 5GW high-efficiency solar cell factory in Laos, contributing more than US$2.4 billion to industrial production.
The opening ceremony recently was attended by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and the Mayor of Vientiane, Dr Atsaphangthong Siphandone, according to Paxason Newspaper.
The company’s production base in Laos plans to build 9GW of battery plates and 3GW of high-efficiency solar cell panel assembly equipment, on a construction site of about 32 hectares, which is the largest solar cell equipment production centre in the world after China.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President of Zhongrun Laos Solar Technology Company Limited, Rong Da Xiang, said “The success of the first phase of the 5GW solar cell project in Laos is an important milestone for the company in accelerating the expansion of its market abroad.”
“Both are the result of government-business cooperation and business-business cooperation between Laos and China,” he added.
The company applies the concept of “detailed and modern production”, with the use of 11 pairs of the most modern equipment in this industry installed in the factory. More than 90 per cent of the equipment used operates automatically.
The project will create up to 1,200 jobs for Lao people and contribute more than US$2.4 billion to industrial production as production capacity gradually expands to become an important pillar in promoting the growth of imports and exports of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Rong Da Xiang said “The company will bring technological innovation and product quality as the foundation for making solar panels and their components, aiming to meet market demand and become one of Laos’ export products with advanced technology, create value-added products, and compete in foreign markets under China’s “One Belt, One Road Initiative”.”
The company is a green energy producer that focuses on research, development, production and sale of efficient solar panels, as well as making solar panel components and running power stations.
In the first six months of 2023, the company produced and exported solar panels ranked third in the world, according to the company’s current production expansion plan and construction progress.
By the end of this year, the company will reach a production scale of more than 50GW of solar cell batteries and 5.7GW of solar cell assembly equipment, and in the future is set to become the world’s leading company in this type of industry.
