Attapeu, Huaphan governors replaced

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/Asia News Network): The Governors and Secretaries of the provincial Party Committees of Attapeu and Huaphan provinces have been replaced in the latest reallocation of top provincial posts.

Former Deputy Minister of Public Security, Major General Vanthong Kongmany, replaced Leth Sayaphone as Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor of Attapeu at an official ceremony conducted on Oct 5, the Lao News Agency reported.

Under the Law on Provincial People’s Council, General Vanthong, who is a member of the Party Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), needed the Council’s approval to become governor.

Leth, who is also a member of the Party Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, will take up a new post at the Lao Federation of Trade Unions.

Politburo member and Vice President Bounthong Chitmany presided over the handover ceremony at the Provincial Convention Hall.

On the same day, former Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Khampheng Saysompheng replaced Vanxay Phengsoumma as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor of Huaphan province.

Under the Law on Provincial People’s Council, Dr Khampheng, who is also a member of the LPRP Central Committee, needed approval from the Council to be appointed governor.

Vanxay, who is also a member of the LPRP Central Committee, will take up a new post at the LPRP’s Administrative Office.
