Labour shortage continues to impact business operations in Laos

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos has been concerned about a labour shortage that is affecting business operations despite the Lao government's efforts to increase minimum wage for workers.

Representatives from the Lao government and international organisations, educational institutes and the business sector met in the Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday (Oct 12) to discuss ways to tackle the issue, the Vientiane Mai Newspaper reported on Friday.

Xaybandith Rasphone, vice president of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told the meeting that most businesses are grappling with challenges such as labor shortage, labour fees, high exchange rate and rising fuel costs, which are affecting their operations.

A survey showed that there are many fields with a high demand for labour.
