Vietnam's North-South Expressway opens another 500km to traffic in Jan-Sept

HANOI (Xinhua): Sections amounting to over 500km in length of Vietnam's North-South Expressway were put into operation in the first nine months of this year, Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday (Oct 12), citing the Ministry of Transport.

The sections opened to traffic during the cited period included Mai Son-National Highway 45, Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet, Phan Thiet-Dau Giay, National Highway 45-Nghi Son, Nghi Son-Dien Chau, and Nha Trang-Cam Lam.

From January to September, the ministry also initiated the construction of 13 major transportation projects.

By the end of this year, two new transportation projects will be completed and put into operation, including the My Thuan 2 Bridge and the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway.

By the end of September, the ministry has disbursed 56.496 trillion Vietnamese dong (US$2.31 billion) of public investment in transportation projects.

The Vietnam's North-South Expressway with an expected length of over 2,000km runs from northern province of Lang Son to southern province of Ca Mau.

More than 1,000km of the expressway has been completed and put into operation so far.
