BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): An Indonesian man who worked at a car wash, was sentenced to four months’ jail on by Brunei's Magistrate Court after he pleaded guilty to stealing a customer’s phone.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana Abdul Rahman lambasted Tugio, 38, for having breached the trust of customers and his employers, along with his act of stealing in the customer’s presence.
Prosecutors Abdul Musawwir Awang Mahli and Nur Zahidah Farhanah binti Abdul Aziz revealed in court that Tugio received a customer’s car for cleaning at the car wash in Kampong Serambangun, Tutong at 8.11am on October 7.
As Tugio was cleaning the car, he came across a mobile phone in the backseat and hid it in the back pocket of the driver’s seat.
After he finished cleaning the car, he took the phone and threw it onto a grassy area on the ground nearby.
Tugio later took the phone and kept it at home.
The same day, the owner realised that the phone was missing and filed a police report leading to the man’s arrest. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
