Police seek more proof to connect cop to beauty queen’s disappearance

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): Police are looking for evidence that will directly link the police officer identified as a “person of interest” in the disappearance of beauty queen, former Miss Batangas Catherine Camilon (pic).

Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation Field Unit – Calabarzon chief Colonel Jacinto Malinao on Monday said the unnamed police officer was relieved from his post.

The law enforcer was transferred to the Philippine National Police – Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit’s custody, pending an impartial and full investigation.

“He will undergo an interview, and if we prove he’s not telling the truth, he will face a perjury complaint later on,” Malinao revealed in an interview with Radyo 630.

“In the meantime, we seek other evidence linking him to the case,” he said.

Citing police reports, Malinao said this development came after a close friend of Camilon texted the beauty queen’s family.

The close friend informed the police that Camilon was in a romantic relationship with a police officer.

The friend also claimed the person of interest agreed to meet Camilon when she disappeared.

Previous reports said the Miss Grand Philippines 2023 candidate was reported missing by her mother and sister days after she allegedly went missing while travelling from Tuy to Batangas City on Oct 12.

The beauty queen’s mother, Rosario, last contacted her daughter around 8:33pm on the same day.

In the search for Camilon, authorities offered a total of P250,000 for anyone who has credible information on her whereabouts.

Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste offered P100,000 to add to the bounty.

The business sector of the Police Regional Office Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) offered another P 100,000.

Philippine Anti-Organised Crime Commission also pledged P50,000 for critical information to solve the case.
