BANGKOK (The Nation Thailand/ANN): Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is seeking to raise the salaries of civil servants, as promised during his government’s policy statement to Parliament.

The Prime Minister has instructed Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara to collaborate with the Finance Ministry, the National Economic and Development Council (NESDC), and the Budget Bureau to discuss salary adjustments for government officials.

The Secretariat of the Cabinet has sent a letter to government agencies acknowledging the prime minister’s directive, issued during the Cabinet meeting on October 31.

At the meeting, Srettha said the government’s policy statement aims to create income and provide salaries that are fair and adequate for government workers in line with the current economic situation.

The Labour Ministry was tasked with expediting a feasibility study of the daily minimum wage and pay for civil servants and reporting the results to the Cabinet promptly.

Foreign Minister Parnpree, in his capacity as the Civil Service Committee chairman, will coordinate with the Office of the Civil Service Commission, the Finance Ministry, Budget Bureau, NESDC and relevant agencies to study the feasibility, guidelines, timeframe, and impacts of adjusting salaries for civil servants and government officials.

The report is due to be submitted to the Cabinet by the end of the month. - The Nation Thailand/ANN
