Cruise ship tourism on the rise in Brunei; Norwegian cruiser brings over 3,300 visitors to Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Cruise tourism continues to bring tourists to Brunei, with the Norwegian Jewel making a historic maiden call, bringing more than 3,300 visitors to the country on Monday.

"Its arrival marks a milestone for Brunei Darussalam's tourism industry, offering an opportunity for passengers to explore the beauty and culture of the country," Brunei's Tourism Development Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism said in a press release.

The Norwegian Jewel was the fourth cruise ship to visit Brunei this year. Originating from the Bahamas Islands in the Caribbean, the Norwegian Jewel carried 2,302 passengers and 1,030 crew members.

Passengers aboard the Norwegian Jewel were offered exclusive tours to some of Brunei's most iconic destinations, including the Royal Regalia Museum, the Jame' Asr Mosque, the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, and Istana Nurul Iman, the royal palace.

According to the Tourism Development Department, Brunei is set to welcome two more cruise ships this year, with another Norwegian Jewel cruise scheduled to sail into Brunei waters on Nov. 26. - Xinhua
