Brunei detains 18 Bangladeshis in joint raid against illegals

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Eighteen Bangladeshi nationals were detained for immigration offences during a joint operation targeting several rented houses in Mukim Berakas.

Seventeen of the 18 detained individuals failed to produce valid travel documents while one individual was believed to be overstaying in the country.

The operation, led by the Immigration and National Registration Department, also saw the involvement of the Labour Department, Department of Electrical Services (DES) and the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi).

The DES cut electricity to two rented houses as the wiring was not installed in accordance to safety standards. The authorities said the wiring was also done by an unregistered individual.

Meanwhile, the ABCi noted that the construction of the accommodations was done without approval. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
