PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia's anti-drug police have arrested a gang of four foreigners for allegedly trafficking illicit drugs, confiscating 58.4 kilograms of narcotics, the country's Anti-Drug Department said in a news release.
The all-male suspects were apprehended on Tuesday during raids on two locations in the national capital Phnom Penh's Meanchey district after a probe for several months.
"Some 28.3 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 26.4 kg of ecstasy, 2.9 kg of nimetazepam, and 0.83 kg of ketamine were seized in the suspects' possession during the raids," the department said.
About 336 kg of drug ingredients were also seized, it added.
The South-East Asian country has no death sentence for a drug trafficker. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drugs could be jailed for life.
According to the department, the kingdom reported crackdowns on 7,405 drug-related cases during the first 11 months of 2023, arresting 18,350 people, including 458 foreigners of 16 nationalities.
A total of 2.85 tons of illicit drugs were seized during the January-November period this year, it said, adding that most of them were heroin, ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills and cathinone. - Xinhua
