Indonesia records more than 110 per cent increase in foreign tourists arrivals in 2023

JAKARTA (Bernama-Antara): Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that as of November, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in 2023 had reached 10.4 million, an increase of 110.86 per cent as compared to the same period in 2022.

Acting Head of BPS Amalia Widyasanti conveyed the report while delivering the Official Statistical News Release that was monitored online here on Tuesday.

Despite the significant increase as compared to 2022, Widyasanti noted that the number of foreign tourist arrivals as of November 2023 was still lower than the figure recorded during the same period in 2019, or before the COVID-19 pandemic, which reached 14.7 million arrivals.

Especially in November 2023, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia stood at 917.41 thousand, an increase of 30.17 per cent from the corresponding month in the previous year.

However, in comparison with October 2023, the figure showed a decline of 6.24 per cent.

Based on the tourists' nationalities, foreign travellers arriving in Indonesia in November 2023 were largely from Malaysia, with 141.8 thousand arrivals; Singapore, 118 thousand arrivals; and Australia, 117.1 thousand arrivals.

Widyasanti further noted that in terms of the average length of stay, in November 2023, foreign tourists spent around 8.68 nights in Indonesia.

Furthermore, based on the entry point monitoring, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, is the most popular entry point to Indonesia among foreign tourists, with a share of 43.2 per cent.

"Foreign tourists that entered through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport were recorded to be the highest, namely 396.2 thousand arrivals, or 43.2 per cent, dominated by foreign tourists from Australia, at 26.4 per cent," she remarked.

The two other popular entry points in November were the Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Banten, and Hang Nadim International Airport, Riau Islands. - Bernama-Antara
