Laos' digital week launched to promote digital products, services

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos' Ministry of Technology and Communications held Lao Digital Week to promote the use of innovation technology, information and communication technology (ICT), and digital technology in socioeconomic development.

The event, held in the Lao capital Vientiane, features a diverse range of activities, including a high-level forum on digital development and transformation, and exhibitions of telecommunications and innovation products from startups in Laos and neighboring countries, which will display their products at more than 100 booths, the Vientiane Mai newspaper reported.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Wednesday, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone urged technology and communication officials to improve macro-management to resolve economic and social problems by using digital technology.

"We must build on the success of our initial digital transformation by developing and using digital technology from the central to the local level of government, to respond to the needs of the public promptly, easily, accurately and transparently," Sonexay said.

"We must change our mindset and adopt modern ways of working to stimulate the widespread use of digital technology for economic development, production and services, to create a stable economic base," he added.

The event aims to popularize public understanding of the country's shift to modern industry and a digital economy. It also aims to boost the provision of products and services qualified to compete at regional and international contests such as the ASEAN ICT Award 2024.

It will run through Sunday (Jan 14). - Xinhua
