Northern Laos' Luang Prabang tourists haven expects to attract over 1.7 million tourists in 2024

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Authorities in northern Laos' Luang Prabang province are expecting more than 1.7 million people to visit the province during Visit Laos Year 2024 and anticipate tourist spending of at least US$900 million.

Provincial authorities are preparing many events to welcome tourists during Visit Laos Year 2024, Vientiane Mai newspaper on Tuesday quoted Deputy governor of Luang Prabang province, Bounleuam Manivong, as saying.

The events include the Lighted Boat Festival, a traditional food festival, a handicraft exhibition, demonstrations of the province's special customs, a traditional music contest, a cycle race, and the Boat Racing Festival.

In recent years, the Lao government has prioritized tourism as a means to strengthen the economy and has sought ways to support the tourism industry and encourage more people to visit and explore Laos' many fascinating towns, villages and scenic wonders. Enditem
