Brunei holds National Day celebration in grand style in the capital


Brunei king Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at the 40th National Day grand assembly at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam on Saturday held a celebration to commemorate the 40th anniversary of independence.

Parade and performances were held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei Darussalam. Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah attended the celebration.

The Southeast Asian country is renowned for its beautiful tropical landscapes, abundant oil and natural gas resources.

The Bruneian government has been committed to promoting economic diversification.

As this year marks a special occasion with the nation celebrating 40 years of independence, people from all walks of life thronged to the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium to join the grand assembly.

All roads led to the stadium yesterday with heavy traffic recorded as early as 4am with participants in a joyous mood to jointly engage in the historic event.

The participants included the Chinese community in Brunei Darussalam led by Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin. - Xinhua/Borneo Bulletin-ANN
