PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia and Laos have signed a memorandum on security cooperation for 2024, with a focus on combating all kinds of cross-border crimes, said a press statement from the Cambodian side to the media.
The deal was inked here on Thursday between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha and Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong during the latter's visit to Cambodia.
"Both sides agreed to continue exchanging information to prevent and suppress all kinds of trans-national crimes, especially to combat drug smuggling and human trafficking across the border of the two countries," the statement said.
The two sides also agreed to encourage competent authorities along the border provinces of the two countries to work together closely to maintain security, public order, and stability in order to turn the border into a region of peace, friendship, cooperation and development, it added.
Both sides agreed that a peaceful borderline will greatly contribute to improving the living standards of the people along the border provinces and boosting bilateral trade and tourism, the statement said. - Xinhua
