Hong Kong logs hottest March day on record as temperatures hit 30.3 degrees Celsius

HONG KONG (SCMP): Hong Kong logged its hottest March day on record as temperatures reached 30.3 degrees Celsius (86.5 degrees Fahrenheit) just after midday on Sunday.

The Observatory recorded the figure, the highest for the month since records began in 1884, at its headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Hot and foggy conditions are also expected in coming days, before weather cools slightly on Wednesday ahead of possible showers and thunderstorms at end of week.

Many monitoring stations across the city also registered temperatures in excess of 30 degrees.

The mercury in Yuen Long hit 30.7 degrees, the temperature reached 30.5 degrees in Happy Valley and 31.1 degrees in Ta Kwu Ling by 12.30pm.

The weather forecaster said conditions would be hot during the day, as well as foggy in the morning and at night over the next couple of days.

Temperatures are expected drop slightly on Wednesday, with a southerly airstream replaced by a weak northeast monsoon in the middle of the week.

It stated that showers and thunderstorms are predicted to arrive towards the end of the week. - South China Morning Post
