VIENTIANE: Authorities in Champassak province have given the green light to a local company to develop and build facilIties for visitors at Tad Xae waterfall with the hope of attracting tourists.
The waterfall is located at Huaxae village in Bachiengchalernsouk district. The concession agreement for developing the Tad Xae waterfall park tourism project over an area of 14 hectares was signed on May 10 by the Head of the Planning and Investment Department of Champassak, Dr Souksavanh Vilayvong, and a representative of a local company, Soukpaserth Bouddavong.
The concession is for 45 years and the total investment in the project will be more than US$ 3.5 million. The land provided under the concession is divided into three areas, including a conservation area to be developed as a green area. This will cover diverse forests with a total area of 64,854sq m.
The concession area also includes a tourism development area of 44,967sq m and other land.
Once the project goes ahead, it is expected to bring more visitors to Champassak province and, at the same time, generate revenues for local residents.
The province has 216 officially designated tourist sites, including 116 natural, 60 cultural, and 40 historical places of interest.
Among the area’s natural wonders are Khonphapheng, Tad Fan and Tad Yeuang waterfalls, and tourist activities range from adventure treks and ziplining to rest and recuperation in the lap of nature.
Visitors can also enjoy produce from the Bolaven Plateau, including the area’s famed coffee.
In 2022, Tad Yeuang waterfall received an Asean Sustainable Tourism Award.
This award aims to inspire tourism authorities in Asean countries to develop new tourism products, address environmental and economic problems caused by the rapid growth of tourism, and improve tourism products and services to meet Asean standards.
