HANOI (Bernama-VNA): Vietnam’s newly-elected State President, To Lam, took the oath of office on May 22, promising to be loyal to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution and to do his best to complete tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported that the newly-elected president said this new position provides him with a chance to join hands with the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and dedicate all of his heart and mind to serve the country and the people following the path chosen by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.

The leader said that the country’s current fortune, potential, and international position and prestige are important premises for him to be able to fulfil his responsibilities as the State President while setting higher requirements and expectations in the new stage of development to create new miracles towards the goal of "rich people, strong country, democracy, equality and civilisation".

The new State President pledged to strictly and fully perform his tasks and authority, actively carry out the country's domestic and foreign affairs, defence and security tasks while joining the entire Party, people, army and organisations in the political system to promote the spirit of self-reliance, self-confidence, self-strength, self-resilience, and national pride.

Lam vowed to strive to successfully implement all of the Party's policies and guidelines, starting with the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, aiming to achieve the country's centennial goals under the Party's leadership, and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to turn Vietnam into a socialism-oriented, developed and high-income nation.

Based on the steadfast, creative application and development of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh’s thought and the Party's reform policy; with national independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and national interests as the top priorities; and with happiness and well-being of the people as the foremost concern, the president said he would closely coordinate with relevant agencies to effectively implement the task of building and perfecting the legal system, building a socialist law-governed State of the people, by the people and for the people in the new period.

He promised to create a modern, efficient, advanced and developed national governance system, and a professional, law-ruled and modern administrative and judicial system, paying adequate attention to building, consolidating and promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc in conjunction with achieving social progress and justice, improving the quality of life and happiness of the people, and leading and organising the implementation of practical and effective patriotic emulation movements linked to studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle.

The State President affirmed that he will work with cadres in the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat to enhance the Party’s leadership, ruling and combat capacity, prevent and push back signs of degradation, "self-evolution", "self-transformation," and effectively implement the foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification of external relations imbued with the "Vietnamese bamboo” diplomacy.

Earlier, with 472 "yes” votes out of 473 attending deputies, or 96.92 per cent of the total number of NA deputies, the 15th National Assembly (NA) approved the resolution on the election of To Lam, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security and deputy to the 15th NA, as the State President for 2021 to 2026 tenure. -Bernama-VNA
