JAKARTA/BALI (Bernama): Indonesian police have captured Chaowalit Thongduang, Thailand’s top fugitive, also known as Sia Paeng Nanod, in Bali on Thursday morning after seven months on the run.

The arrest of Chaowalit, who has a criminal record that includes convictions for attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms, occurred in an apartment situated in the Badung area.

"He is wanted by the authorities in Thailand,” stated Polri International Relations Division head Krishna Murti in a statement on Saturday.

Meanwhile, North Sumatra Police arrested two local individuals suspected of assisting Chaowalit during his brief stop in Medan, including providing him with a fake identity card, facilitating his escape in Indonesia.

According to reports from the Bangkok Post, Chaowalit had previously escaped from a hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Oct 22, 2023, and was implicated in an attack on Thai police personnel. - Bernama
