Death toll reaches to six during tragic fire incident in Mandalay

YANGON: On May 31, a devastating fire erupted in Mandalay resulting in a death toll of six people.

The incident occurred during the transfer of gas from a large 48 kg cylinder to a smaller one.

The fire broke out on the ground floor of a two-story building situated between 81st and 82nd Streets, and between 32nd Street and 33rd Street in the East Ward of Aung Nang Avenue, Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region.

It was triggered by a gas leak during the gas transfer process.

Nine men and six women sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Tragically, five of them succumbed to their severe injuries by Wednesday (June 5).

On Friday (June 7) morning, an injured man - a member of the auxiliary fire brigade - also lost his life due to the severity of his injuries.

The fire consumed a two-story building, a warehouse, and the upper floor of another two-story building.

A Level 2 fire response team promptly arrived to extinguish the flames, successfully putting out the fire by 10.23am.

The police filed a case against two individuals at No. 8 Police Station in Chanayethazan Township under Sections 285, 337, and 338 of the Penal Code. - Eleven Media Group/ANN
