Thai cargo ship sinks in sea off Cambodia's Sihanoukville, all 10 crew members rescued

PHNOM PENH: A Thai cargo ship sank in sea off Sihanoukville in southwestern Cambodia on Sunday (Jun 9), and all 10 crew members were rescued timely, Cambodia's National Committee for Maritime Security said in a news release.

The accident happened at around at noon local time when the vessel, shipping 53 containers, was travelling from Thailand to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, the news release said.

The ship sank when it was hit by torrential rain and strong wind as well as high waves at a point near Koh Rong Island, it said.

"All 10 Thai crew members were rescued timely by a nearby fishing boat," it added.

According to the news release, the ship was named Chiang Laan, which is 49m long, 15m wide and 3.2ms deep. - Xinhua
