Earthquake jolts Sarangani and Surigao del Sur in Mindanao


MANILA: Two earthquakes struck in separate areas in Mindanao early Friday (June 14) morning, the state seismology bureau reported.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), a magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck at 3:43 am in the waters east of Sarangani.

It was felt at Instrumental Intensity I in Malungon, Sarangani, Phivolcs said.

Meanwhile, a magnitude-4.5 earthquake struck at 5:43 a.m., some 50km northeast of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs said it was felt at Intensity II in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur and Instrumental Intensity I in the City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur.

State seismologists said no damage or aftershocks are expected from the Sarangani and Surigao del Sur earthquakes. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
