Indonesian ministries urged to provide EVs in Nusantara

SEMARANG, Indonesia: Indonesia’s Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi called on ministries to procure electric vehicles (EVs) for their operations in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), East Kalimantan.

"I have asked each of the ministries to procure electric vehicles for their own," he said here on Sunday (June 16), reported Antara news agency.

The initiative aims to support sustainable transportation within the Nusantara region, with ministers and high-ranking officials mandated to use EVs while on duty in IKN.

"Of course, ministers, echelon I and echelon II officials who are on duty in IKN must use electric vehicles," Minister Sumadi said.

The Law No.3/2022 concerning the National Capital City states that low-emission public transportation and mobility must be prioritised in order to create a sustainable city and provide an equal transportation system for the community.

Key principles include enhancing mass transit as a core mobility service, integrating various modes of public transport, and ensuring easy accessibility for all residents, with a target for 80 per cent of trips within IKN to be via public transport, reaching 90 per cent in densely populated areas.

The master plan also emphasises zero-emission policies for both public and private vehicles, aiming to ensure all residents are within a 10-minute walk from transit points and establishing integrated hubs to facilitate seamless mobility.

In addition, the establishment of direct routes and strategic hubs in integration points to support mobility.

To support these goals, policies are being developed, including substantial subsidies for public transport users, an integrated payment system, and comprehensive frameworks for managing and monitoring the city's transportation network. - Bernama-Antara
