YANGON: A total of 984 people were killed and 2,737 others injured in 1,843 accidents recorded across Myanmar between January and May this year, according to the Road Transport Administration Department on Wednesday (June 26).
The number of casualties in road accidents in the cited period is down compared to 1,162 deaths and 3,049 injuries in 2,173 accidents that occurred in the same period a year earlier, the figures showed.
From January to May this year, Yangon Region reported the highest number of road accidents at 357, followed by Ayeyarwady Region with 303 and Bago Region with 257, showed the data.
In 2023, a total of 4,772 traffic accidents occurred across the Southeast Asian country, killing 2,422 and injuring 6,583, official data showed. - Xinhua/ANN
