BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Gambling Suppression and Crime Prevention Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), assisted by the Special Investigation Unit and the Burglary and Car Theft Unit, CID, successfully dismantled a gambling operation in Mukim Kilanas on Wednesday (June 26) night.
The raid conducted at a rented house resulted in the arrest of 16 male foreign nationals, including citizens of Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
A total of BND9,439.80, SGD14, and MYR2 in cash were seized, along with the gambling apparatus used for the game of “katam-katam,” including the cloth and equipment for rolling the dice (Kong).
All suspects were taken to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital for health checks and detained for further investigation. It was believed that several suspects fled through a large drain behind the house.
This case is being investigated under Section 4 for managing a gambling place, which carries a fine of BND20,000 and up to 12 months’ imprisonment, and under Section 6 (1) for gambling, punishable by a fine of BND10,000 and up to 6 months’ imprisonment, Common Gaming Houses Act, Chapter 28.
The RBPF said that public cooperation and the effective dissemination of information to law enforcement agencies have enabled successful operations to combat such illegal activities. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
